Mumtaj graduated from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2012 and was called to the Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in August 2014.

Mumtaj is a fairly experienced Legal Practitioner and she joined ARLC as an Associate in December 2017 after practising mainly Criminal law for the last 3 years.

Mumtaj has always had a special interest in Criminal Law and she has represented multiple clients as a Lead or Assisting counsel up to Plead Guilty Mentions and Trials, involving different offences under the Penal Code, Prevention of Corruption Act, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act, Arms Offences Act, Enlistment Act, Films Act, Miscellaneous Offences Act, Moneylenders’ Act, Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, Immigration Act, Customs Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, Women’s Charter,
Protection from Harassment Act and the Road Traffic Act.
Mumtaj is also caring, compassionate and passionate in
getting the best outcome for her clients. Although Mumtaj was mainly a Criminal Practitioner, she is also proficient in various areas of legal practice including but not limited to:

Yamuna also gives a portion of her time to Pro Bono work. One of the most memorable cases for Mumtaj was her first Acquittal for a charge of Outrage of Modesty. Although the client could not afford his legal fees about 2 months prior to the Trial, Mumtaj continued to defend him Pro Bono as she felt she had to defend him to prove his innocence.
